JustRec vs Loom: An Honest Comparison (2026)

Loom is a cloud video platform for teams. JustRec is a Mac recorder for sending videos to clients. Here is where each one wins, with every Loom fact sourced and dated.

Updated 5 November 2026

JustRec vs Loom comes down to one question: do you want a shared video platform for your team, or a fast way to send a video to a client? Loom is the first: a cloud library with comments, viewer insights, integrations and apps on every platform. JustRec is the second: a Mac menu bar app that copies a link on stop, keeps the original on your Mac and deletes the online copy when the link expires.

We make JustRec, so read this with that in mind. Every Loom fact below comes from loom.com or Atlassian Support and is listed in the sources at the end. JustRec is not released yet; its facts describe what is available at launch.

Where your videos live

This is the biggest difference, and it shapes everything else.

Loom is cloud-first. You record, and the video goes to your Loom library, where your team can find it, comment on it and organize it in spaces. Atlassian’s data residency page lists videos, comments, transcripts and AI-generated content as content stored and processed in your workspace’s region. Data residency launched in May 2026 for Germany (Frankfurt) and the United States (Oregon). It is chosen when a new workspace is provisioned and can’t be changed later; existing Loom workspaces can’t switch yet.

JustRec is local-first. The recording is an MP4 file in Movies/JustRec on your Mac. When you press stop, a copy uploads to servers in the EU and the link lands in your clipboard. The shared copy is deleted when the link expires; the original stays with you. More on the idea in local-first screen recording.

Pick Loom if the video library is the point. Pick JustRec if the video is a message and you’d rather not keep years of client screens online.

On Loom, a public video “can be viewed by anyone who has the link”, with no login needed, and “by default videos will remain public unless an expiration rule is added”. Admins on Business + AI and Enterprise can set that rule, and creators can override it per video. Loom also offers restricted sharing to specific email addresses on all plans, and password protection on paid plans.

On JustRec, every link expires and there is nothing to configure: 3 days on Lifetime, 30 days on Personal and Team. You can withdraw a link earlier from the library. There are no password-protected links yet (they are planned). Why we chose expiry over a permanent library is explained in why expiring video links are safer.

For EU agencies, the other half of the privacy question is contracts and sub-processors. We cover that in Loom and GDPR.

Subtitles and AI

Loom generates transcripts and captions in more than 50 languages on every plan, and viewers can translate captions with AI if the creator’s workspace allows it. Business + AI adds summaries, chapters and filler-word removal. Loom’s pricing FAQ says “OpenAI receives transcript data as text files in order to generate titles and summaries.”

JustRec generates subtitles on your Mac with a speech-to-text model downloaded once. Your voice isn’t sent to an external AI. Subtitles are in the language you speak, including English, Italian, Spanish, French, German and Portuguese, and show on the video page. JustRec also suggests a title from your first words. There are no AI summaries, and translated subtitles are planned. The trade-offs are covered in on-device vs cloud transcription.

Price

Example (labelled, not a quote) Loom JustRec
One freelancer, one year Business: $180 (annual billing) Lifetime: €19 once (early bird) or Personal: €82.80 (€6.90 × 12)

Loom is a trademark of Atlassian. Loom prices in USD from loom.com/pricing; JustRec prices in EUR excluding VAT, may change before launch.

Loom’s free Starter plan is a real option if your videos are short and few. JustRec has no free plan; its entry point is a one-time payment.

Team features and integrations

Loom wins here, clearly. It has personal, shared and team libraries, workspace spaces, admin controls, SSO on Enterprise and a long list of integrations. Comments and emoji reactions work on every plan, and viewer insights tell you who watched.

JustRec has none of these at launch. Each person keeps their library on their own Mac, the client replies by email or chat, and the video page doesn’t track viewers. Planned: an email when your client watches, client folders, agency logo and custom domain on Team, and team member management.

Recording and editing

Both record your screen, camera and microphone: Loom’s desktop app may ask for those three permissions on first run, and Business adds basic waveform editing. JustRec records the whole screen, a window or an area, with a round, square or 16:9 camera bubble, system audio, click highlights, auto zoom, backgrounds, drawing on screen and start and end trimming. It doesn’t have a timeline editor and doesn’t record meetings.

Who should pick which

Choose Loom if

  • Your team shares and comments on videos in one library
  • You need viewer insights or integrations
  • Someone records on Windows, iPhone or Android

  • You want subtitles made on your Mac
  • You'd rather pay once than per user every month
