Screen Recorder for Freelancers

One person, many clients, and no time for a call about every detail. Record a short video, press stop, and paste the link into the chat you already use with that client.

Updated 5 November 2026

JustRec is a screen recorder for freelancers who explain their work to clients from a Mac. Press a shortcut, talk through the mockup, the bug or the quote, press stop, and the share link is already in your clipboard. Your client opens it in any browser without installing anything, and you can pay for it once instead of every month.

It launches soon. Join the waitlist for one email at launch, with the early-bird price.

One person, many clients

As a freelancer you’re the designer, the developer, the account manager and the person who answers WhatsApp at 9 p.m. Every client has their own channel: one lives in Slack, one in email, one sends voice notes.

A video link works in all of them. You don’t upload a file anywhere, you don’t check whether the attachment is too big, and you don’t ask a client to download a player. If you’ve ever fought with that, our guide to sending a large video to a client explains the options, and the send video to clients page shows what the link looks like on the other side.

The bigger gain is time. A three-minute video replaces a call you’d have to schedule, prepare and sit through, and the client can watch it when it suits them. The guide to async video for client communication covers when that works and when a call is still better.

What a screen recorder for freelancers should do

You don’t have an assistant or an editor. The tool has to be fast enough to use for a one-minute answer and clean enough to send to a new client.

  • Starts from anywhere

Option-Shift-R or the menu bar icon, then a 3-second countdown. No window to open first.

  • Link copied on stop

The video uploads when you press stop, and the link is in your clipboard before you switch apps.

  • Nothing for the client to install

Any browser, desktop or phone. No account, no app, no sign-up wall.

  • Subtitles included

Made on your Mac in the language you speak, and shown on the video page.

  • Your library stays local

Every video is saved on your Mac. Rename, share again or withdraw a link anytime.

  • Pay once if you want

Lifetime is a one-time price. Personal is there if you need longer videos and links.

Look professional without editing

First impressions count, even in a two-minute video. JustRec handles the details while you record, so there’s nothing to fix afterwards:

  • A camera bubble that’s round, square or 16:9, with your built-in camera, an external webcam or your iPhone through Continuity Camera.
  • Click highlights and auto zoom so the client follows your cursor. The zoom follows your clicks and you can edit it afterwards.
  • Backgrounds and padding around the recording, so a browser window looks deliberate instead of cropped.
  • Notifications hidden from the recording, an option in Settings, so a message from another client doesn’t pop up mid-video.
  • A warning if your microphone is silent, so you don’t record five minutes of nothing.
  • A suggested title from your first words, which also shows in the link preview in WhatsApp, Slack and Mail.

If you made a false start, trim the beginning and the end. For everything else, the 60-second checklist before you record and our tips on recording a client video in one go do more than any editor.

Use cases for designers, developers and consultants

Designers

Walk the client through a mockup or a prototype and point at the details while you explain them. Your comments arrive in the order you meant, not the order the client happens to read them. See how to give design feedback by video and how to record a Figma prototype walkthrough.

Developers

Record a bug as it happens, show the fix on staging, or hand over a finished site with a tour of the CMS. Showing a technical decision is often easier than writing it up, as our guide to explaining technical decisions to non-technical clients shows. Our guide to website handover videos has a structure you can reuse.

Consultants

Explain a proposal before the client opens the PDF, or send a short review of their website as a first contact. Read how to walk a client through a quote by video and the video website audit.

Pay once, or pay monthly

Screen recorders with share links are often sold as a monthly subscription per user. Loom, for example, lists its Business plan at $18 per user per month on its pricing page. That’s fair for a team that lives in a cloud library, but it adds up for one person who sends a few videos a week.

JustRec has a one-time option:

Lifetime Personal
Price €19 once (early bird), then €29, with all 1.x updates €6.90 per month billed yearly, or €8.90 monthly
Longest video 10 minutes 30 minutes
Link lasts 3 days 30 days
Best for Reviews, bug reports, quick answers Handovers, training, long walkthroughs

Prices exclude VAT and may change before launch. Planned for Personal: client folders with one-click reshare, an email when your client watches, translated subtitles and password-protected links. None of these is available at launch.

A 3-day link sounds short, but a review video has done its job once the client has watched it and replied. The original stays on your Mac, so if a client asks again next week you share it again with a new link. We explain the reasoning in why expiring video links are safer. If you’d rather keep all your videos in the cloud with comments under each one, Loom is the better choice; our Loom alternative page explains the trade-off.

Loom is a trademark of Atlassian.

What it doesn’t do

JustRec runs only on Mac, macOS 15 Sequoia or later. There’s no timeline editor, no comments or call-to-action button under the video, no viewer analytics, and no integrations with other apps. It’s for the videos you send to clients, not for recording meetings or editing a YouTube channel.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a one-time price, without a subscription?

Yes. The Lifetime plan costs €19 once at the early-bird price, then €29, and includes all 1.x updates. Videos can be up to 10 minutes and links last 3 days.

Should I choose Lifetime or Personal?

Lifetime fits short reviews and bug reports that clients watch within a few days. Choose Personal, at €6.90 a month billed yearly, if you record videos longer than 10 minutes or send handovers that clients need for a month.

Do my clients need to install anything?

No. They open the link in any browser, on a computer or a phone, without an account or an app.

Can I edit my videos?

You can trim the start and end and adjust the auto zoom after recording, and add backgrounds and padding. There is no timeline editor.

Does JustRec run on Windows or iPhone?

No. JustRec is a Mac app and needs macOS 15 Sequoia or later. You can use an iPhone as your camera through Continuity Camera.
